Secret Pals 8 Questionnaire

1. What is/are your favorite yarn's to knit with? What fibers do you absolutely (not) like? Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your point of view) my tastes run to the expensive in fibers. I like the wools, wool blends (with mohair, yak, bamboo etc.), silks and fine cottons. I really don't work with any acrylic unless it is for a quick baby blanket which I look at as something that has to be durable/washable and inexpensive to make. I feel like this is a hobby that I want to enjoy thoroughly and enjoy the process...so I invest in the yarn and see it as just that - an investment that pays dividends with the joy I derive from working with the lush, lovely, tactile yarn and then having a beautiful garment when I'm done.

2. What do you use to store your needles/hooks in? I have some fabric cases to hold my needes and hooks and for my circulars I try to keep them in their original packaging so I don't have to measure them each time I'm starting a new project. I've yet to do an inventory of my needles to carry in my purse - this is on my goals/to-do list. I put the fabric cases in one large plastic box with a lid and slide it under my bed. I live in a small front-entrance colonial and storage space is at a premium.

3. How long have you been knitting? I started when I was 16 (in 1976). Then I took a break during college and got back to it when I was in my mid twenties. I took another break after I had my son at age 29 and just got back to it in a "big way" about 3 years ago when my best friend turned me on to felting. Now - it's my primary hobby. When I was on my knitting breaks I was either crocheting, cross-stitching, needle pointing, sewing or quilting. I'm a needle kind of gal!.Would you consider your skill level to be beginner, intermediate or advanced? Intermediate to advanced.

4. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list? Nope

5. What's your favorite scent? (for candles, bath products etc.) Candles: lilly of the Valley or Gardenia. Chanel's Cristalle for perfume (only on very special occasions) and my current fave for body lotion - believe it or not- Johnson and Johnson's baby lotion - it's mild and springy.

6. Do you have a sweet tooth? Yup! Favorite candy? Godiva chocolate bars with raspberry. - Can't ever turn down cholocate and rasberry (but not white chocolate).

7. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do? See number 3 above. Do you spin? No

8. What kind of music do you like? old 70's rock, Adrina Thorpe-type music, some country like Sara Evans, and because of my college experience in North Carolina "Beach Music" - esp. Summer Time's Callin' Me by the Catalinas. Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD) - yes

10. What is your family situation? I am married and have one 16-year old son who is a rising senior. In addition I am quite close with my two sisters, my mother, and my two sisters-in-laws, all of whom are quite crafty and talented, but all of whom live many miles from me.

Do you have any pets? yes, we have two cats - Lynx and Pounce. They are awesome kitties also know fondly as Rockhead (because Lynx seems especially lacking in intelligence, but he does attend Rockhead U.) and Mr. P. (our affectionate name for the softest cat in the world)

12. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit? I like shorter projects - usually - socks, sleeveless shells, purses, vests, but from time-to-time I take on the mega project. I'm seriously considering a Clapotis - if I can find the right yarn.

13. What are you knitting right now? On my needles now is a gift for a VERY SPECIAL SOMEONE which I can't say much about because she may check out this blog. I'm also working on a pair of socks (soon to be completed) and a baby blanket for our church's knitting group. I have a cable jacket (so much for short projects - but it calls for bulky yarn so that will speed things up a bit) that I'm thinking of taking on after the socks and the gift for my VERY SPECIAL SOMEONE.

17. How did you learn to knit? My mother taught me. My older sister was going off to college and was asking all the special people in her life to knit a 6"x 6" square for a patchwork quilt. The year was 1976 and and I chose a variegated red-white-and-blue yarn for the bi-centennial. That patch stood out on the quilt.

I have a few items that are lions (after our name - which is spelled LYON - but that's ok.) - they are discreet - like a pewter pin my mother-in-law gave me or pretty gold earings a friend bought me. I don't really want to get into collecting stuffed lions or anything like that but, every once in a while I'll gravitate to a tasteful lion-item.

21. Any books, yarns, needles or patterns out there you are dying to get your hands on?Books: The Shop on Blossom Street by Debbie Macomber, Vogue Knitting: The Ultimate Guide to Knitting (I think it would be a good resource). Stitch 'n Bitch: The Happy Hooker (for crochet I already have the knitting book). The Yarn Harlot. Yarns: too many to make a definitive choice. Patterns: I'm waiting for a book of patterns by Veronik Avery - her designs are so intricate and pretty and I want to try one for my first "really advanced" project

What knitting magazine subscriptions do you have? Vogue Knitting, Interweave Knits and Cast-on (the magazine for The Knitter's Guild of America).
